Wave Rock

1997

The harsh elements of outback Australia, wind, floods, searing heat and the variety of extraordinary colours of the earth can be seen in my quilt. The blocks describe in fabric the rock seen from pale dawn, through the heat of the day until sunset fires the rock face with rich colours. The blocks are set in a circular pattern, enhancing the curved effect and giving an illusion that the vertical lines slant and the borders appear to taper. Quilting lines refer to rainwater coursing down the rock.
